Traditional artificial landmarks for mobile robots mostly rely on color marking or regular structures like barcodes and QR-codes. Color-coded markers could be quickly detected, but they carry limited data, and scannable codes require ideal conditions (lighting, reading angle, etc.) to work.
The Mobile Robot Algorithms Laboratory introduces a new landmark design, which combines all advantages of traditional types and downplays their drawbacks. Moreover, it allows detecting landmarks in the auxiliary video stream.
